Everything you need to know about the Lupine Racing Tracker app: your login code, checking in at checkpoints, taking evidence photos and following the live leaderboards.
Before you go: download the app, wait for your login code, and make sure to allow location permission when the app asks. Without it, tracking won't work.
Using Our App During Your Event
During our events you can track your location and progress through our app. Tracking is required if you want to be considered for the top placings, but for everyone else it's just for fun, if you'd like to appear on our live leaderboards and results.
Open the app and enter the login code we email you (see above). Each code is unique to you, so don't share it around.
On logging in, the app will ask for location permissions so we can add your location to the maps. These get recorded every 5 to 15 minutes, and our maps run a further 5 to 10 minute delay on top of this for safeguarding.
Once you're in the app, tap "Tracking Off" to turn tracking on. If your phone is ever slow to update your position, you can also tap the crosshair button to force it to update.
There's also a small layers button that lets you hide things on the map, like other racers or points of interest, to keep the map simple.
You can also tap the guide book icon in the top right of the map to go to the event resources, with other helpful event specific info in them.
You can also go into Settings to change various things, and to change your display name on the leaderboard under Edit Profile.
For most of our main challenges (Fastest and Treasure Hunt points games), when you get to a checkpoint you can check in at the top of the checkpoints page. If you're in the checkpoint or finish line, you'll be able to tap to check in. This will grant your points in a Treasure Hunt, or allow you to progress in our other challenges.
You'll also be able to go into the camera in our app and take a watermarked photo to fulfil the task specified in the race pack you're given on the line.
If you're in an event with countries or spend categories, you can go to the relevant sections and check in to your country, or log your long distance train or bus spend in line with the event rules (no need to log food, hotels or local buses in cities).
You only need to do this if you're aiming for those categories. If you're not interested, you don't need to log these categories.
At present these are both on an honour system, but we're working to automate these in future versions of our app.
Everything you check in feeds straight into our live leaderboards, so you can see how you're stacking up against the rest of the field by time, countries visited or spend, right from your phone.
On many of our tasks you can grab photos to fulfil the task in your race pack with a secure, timestamped and GPS-tagged photo.
If you're going for countries or other challenges, this tool can also be useful for timestamping and GPS tagging any extra evidence that you were at a given place at a point in time, if you'd like to double up and supplement our background location tracking.
It's always a good idea to get a landmark in these photos, even if it's not part of the challenge. When invigilating top ten placings, we sometimes get photos of the floor or a wall, so ideally make the photo itself also confirm your location, just in case your phone has some GPS drift and the location in the tag is a little further away from exactly where you're standing.
Our tech is here to add to the experience, not get in the way of it. If it's ever holding you up, click the guide book icon in the top right of the map and use the link to raise a tech support request. Our team monitor these constantly during the race, so just reach out and let us know, and we'll let you know what to do.
If for some reason you can't check in to one of the checkpoints, as long as you've got the photo in our app in the right place, we can rectify this for you.
